Adjacent to Holy Trinity Church and dating originally from the early 16th century with extensive additions in the 19th century, The Old School became vacant in 1992 when Holy Trinity C of E (Aided) Primary School moved to brand new premises in Glebe Road. The Church acquired the building as a key part of its mission to reach out into the local community and to make Christ known.
The Old School was acquired with financial assistance from the Kleinwort Charitable Trust and was extensively upgraded and refurbished to become a meeting place for both the local community and Church, where we are continually developing a growing range of teaching, social and pastoral care and community driven activities.
The refurbishment and restoration work revealed many previously unknown Tudor, perhaps even older, features which were carefully preserved for posterity. All this was made possible by the enormous local support for the refurbishment project in the shape of time, talent and financial help.
Building improvements were funded by Church resources from the sale of property and some existing funds and legacies, supported by fund-raising events, a grant from Mid Sussex District Council and direct giving by both Church and community.
